A relaxing and fun day trip out of Christchurch to explore the beautiful Canterbury countryside. Easy biking along country roads and the historic Little River Rail Trail at your own pace. As a destination, Little River ticks all the boxes – great food, a fantastic art gallery and a warm and friendly welcome. One of the best days out on the bike you can imagine.

Tour Information
The Christchurch Little River Rail Trail is a fantastic day trip out of the city. Winding its way out of town into the country and along the historic Little River Branch railway line, this easy and accessible ride weaves through little towns and villages until reaching Little River. There are preserved railway stations and information boards along the way for the history buffs and incredible scenery and wildlife for nature lovers. The trail passes Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) which is recognised as home to New Zealand’s most diverse bird population and the abundant birdlife is an incredible sight to experience.
Perfect for riders of all abilities, it’s the perfect way to escape the city for a day. Whether you are visiting Christchurch and want to enrich your experience by jumping into nature for a day, or you’re a Christchurch local looking to try something different, this is a fantastic day out for everyone.
Tour Itinerary Summary
9am: Pick up from Central Christchurch Accommodation
3pm: Pick up in Little River and return to Central Christchurch Accommodation (timings flexible - just ask!)
Bike Information
The Avanti Discovery 3 is the perfect choice for the rider wanting to experience the trail on a standard bike. With 29” mountain bike tires, 27-speed gearing, hydraulic disc brakes, and a front suspension fork, this bike is great choice for the trail.
The German engineerd Kalkhoff Voyager B8 E-bike utilises the award winning Bosch Perfomance Line motor system, providing unparalleled climbing confidence and impressive range. Our Ebikes have all been fitted with trail tyres for extra traction and have Concept tour handlebars allowing for more upright body position when riding - perfect for touring on the cycle trails.
